Goodbye Old Friend

Yesterday we sadly wished farewell to a beloved old friend, Miss Woofy.
(No, unfortunately, we didn't get to pick her name and ironically she never barked).

Smitten by the arrival of our little ball of fluff Oscar, I've rarely mentioned her on this blog but that's no reflection of our love for her, merely her absence from our home since I started this space.

See Woofy has a very special history and for that an extra treasured place in our hearts.
Having adopted her from a mate who was in more than a bad place at the time and completely unable to care for her, Woofy had experienced a life of neglect that no animal should be subjected to.

By the time she came into our care she was estimated to already be at least 10 years old.
We couldn't be sure as she had been accepted by her original owner as payment and her age was of little concern to him at the time - that was over 5 years ago.

She came to us as a timid, cowering soul who couldn't walk on a lead let alone be comfortable around strangers or a group of more than two people.
But after just a few short months under my hubby's loving wing she blossomed, coming out of her shell and learning commands such as speak, shake and sit.
Before long walkies and shmako's became her two favourite treats :)
Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Flourishing in the glow of finally being the centre of peoples love and attention, the affection we got back from her was immeasurable.
It always amazed us that despite the neglect and poor treatment she had received growing up, her nature was as gentle and placid as an angel.

Although accepting Osky into the fold took some getting used to…

Oscar of coarse was in love with her from the start.
It didn't take long for him to bully his way into her heart and she was too much of a softy to refuse him.

Before too long they were the best of friends and he quickly became the puppy she never had.

Soon they were a little too comfortable in each others presence perhaps… haha

It was only when we took in another wanderer, my good friend Cel who was going through a tough time of her own suffering a marriage break down and facing deportation back to her home in Brazil, that we had to give Woofy up to my Mother In-Law since my friend brought along more than just a little bit of baggage in her tow.
We suffered a cyclone of sorts over the next 3 and a half months in the form of a feisty 4 year old female Jack Russell called Becky.

Woofy's submissive nature didn't stand a chance against Becky's overly excitable energy and when two weeks later she wasn't eating, had become listless and was still being bullied to the point of attack we could take no more.
She deserved better than that and boy did she get it…
Roast chicken dinners, sirloin steaks, an unlimited supply of doggy treats and the undivided attention of a single lady's love. It's no wonder she didn't want to come home at the end of her 3 month stay!

Sad as we were to give her up it was a match made in heaven and the knowledge that she was living out her final years in luxury and total comfort made up for any guilt in having to let her go.

Dearest Woofy, you were the best little companion anyone could ever hope for.
Your resilience and refusal to give up on the human race regardless of how badly you'd been treated was a testament to your beautiful nature and soul.
No other dog has been or will ever come close to holding a shadow to you.
Know that while your beginning may have been rough, in the end, you were loved by all who knew you.
You will always be in our hearts.
 All our love xox

I Get A Kick Out of You

Image
I hope I don't jinx it by posting this but what the hey…
What I'm Much Loving this Monday is that I made it to 30 followers while I was away!!!
HOoRaH!!!

(Is it just me or does the term "followers" make this whole thing sound all cultish?)

Backtrack… How about; Made it to 30 Blog Friends today?
There that sounds better, doesn't it???

Look I know not everyone who joins a blog necessarily reads it on a regular basis but just like an old friend, you know where to find them should you catch yourself thinking of them here or there AND just like an old friend, no hard feelings are ever had by the lapse in visits, you're always glad to see them pop back in your life  :)

So to all my webby friends, those near and those afar;
A great big thank you for joining me on this early journey through my land of words and blog.
I know it doesn't always have a rhyme or any reason but I thank you for sticking by me so far and watching this little project grow.
(into what God only knows)…

Now please for the love of all that's holy please don't ever unfollow me - or I may have to create fake profiles and start following myself…
now that would be awkward tehehe  ❤ xox

Much Love-ing: The Social Season

Drinks + Friends + Great Weekend = Winning!

I'm absolutely, positively brimming with happiness at this beautiful weather recently.
Today is a balmy 29 degrees! So in my element right now.

Also the time frame has been picked and this Wednesday we'll be booking our flights and accommodation so in less than 3 weeks we'll be jetting off to Queensland. Holidays here we come!

Wednesday's chock full of awesomeness because as well as finally booking our tropical getaway, well as tropical as we can get without a passport - Don't even think that I've given up on Hawaii… I'm also getting my long hair back.
Although I've loved the lightness and freedom of my extension-less-ness I'm less than impressed by the baby fine fluff masquerading as hair right now. Forgot how pathetic mine was compared to the rest of the population. Advance hair? Yea yea!

Last but not least I'm feeling so much happier and settled after a good old gassbag with friends and some recreational steam letting.
I'm a lucky girl indeed.

Day 26: Friendship

So very true.

Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test -
Time and change - are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast-
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

So now rather than boast about my friends many talents and strong points till I make you all fall down in a pile of schmaltzy shtick I thought I'd use this opportunity to flex my poetry bone in order to best describe how I feel about my friends.
Excuse me if it sounds adolescent, it seems this is my style...
no matter how hard I try to write otherwise :/

Blessed Friends © Katerina Berry
Without friends the world looks dreary,
Without friends my heart grows weary.
The love of friends it keeps me strong,
The Love of friends is a chosen bond.
So many friends by them I'm blessed,
They've chosen me out from the rest
To have and hold, kept by their side
In this roller-coaster lifelong ride.
Each friendship made and even those broken
a chapter of my life they have spoken
And even though I've been blessed with few
My friends please know I am blessed to have you.
xo

Day 12: Blogger

J & Ambs
I would never have found out about Blogger or any of the blog world had it not been for the amazingly talented and always inspirational Miss Amberlee.
(For more references of my sickening admiration click: here and here)
In fact click here and you'll read both about her influence as well as my reasons for starting a blog.

It's only because of her encouragement that I've dared be brave enough to attempt to use a camera let alone start a blog and post any of my crappy shots. Sometimes I fluke it.... and sometimes I don't.

So while the online journal is a trap I'd hoped I wouldn't fall into, (Thank you, by the way, for reading about and taking the time to comment on my boring life) I do think it's inspired me to be more creative in the way I view the world (every situation is a potential blog post) so in a lot of ways it's helped me achieve exactly what I hoped it would  :)

Anyway that's my gushy post for the day - I think its clear Amber reigns in my top 10 fave people list for many more reasons than I care to admit without sounding like I have a lady crush. (Almost made it as my Day 07 subject but it only asked for one. I'm very lucky indeed to have so many inspirational people in my life. Having the trouble of narrowing that list down is a good problem to have.)

to all the bloggers out there

Day 11: More Friends

The Waxettes*
*That's a little nickname we gave ourselves.

Stems from the fact that we're all ex-employees of high end, high stress salons that shall remain nameless (for fear of legal action. The bitches would do it too - Crazy stories... delusions of grander, mass walkouts, tears & tantrums, oh the joy of the salon industry).
But thankfully (and probably thanks to all this trauma) we've all now moved on to bigger and better things, running our own lovely little beauty businesses free from all that rubbish.

Any hoo... Missing the company of these amazing girls so so much right now.
I never thought I'd consider any of my colleagues "friends" but the only wonderful thing to have come out of employment at these salons, (the last one in particular) were the bonds I made with almost every girl to have worked there.
(Minus the crazy Bold & The Beautiful extras who seriously need to get a job in drama rather than keep creating it in the workplace.)

It feels like forever since I last saw them so hopefully this month we can pull our shit together and pry ourselves away from work and our busy little lives long enough to have some desperately required catch up time.
Here's hoping.
In the meantime I'll gain solace in the fact that I'll be socialising with some other much loved friendzies this weekend. Woo Hoo!
Glad to be back on board the drinks train.
xx

Me Project: Day 03

A picture of me & my friends:

The Waxettes & I, on my wedding day.

The trouble makers :)

There are so many more but these are the least incriminating.
Thank God I have these beautiful people in my life. They keep me sane. Love em all to bits xx

p.s. The last pic is at a fancy dress - that's not our usual get up... I swear ;)

Still Alive

Just in case you were wondering what's happened to me I am still alive - barely!

This week has drained it hard core. Between working on the business, working on my figure and working out the bomb shell that has been my house I've had no time to show any blog love. Sorry for neglecting you :(

I actually have a few new things to post about namely finding my hilariously angsty poetry from my High School days... so embarrassing it hurts lolll
As well as this being day 1 of my Dry July challenge. Oh my... just 30 more to go...

Well I'll try to get on here again over the weekend (I won't be hungover on this Sunday for a change Hoorah! So that should help)

P.S. Today is the birthday of the ever lovely Miss Ambs and what a lovely day it is.
Perfect for big road trips to visit her roots but alas Salami has come between us -  (I can hear a collective "whhaaat? tf" of confusion. - But more on my husbands conversion to the Greecy side another time haha)

Happy Birthday dearest!!!
Thinking of you xx

Kran-tastic!

Dear Kranski,
You rock my world.
Maybe not as much as white wine but I think we could start a love story all the same.
Just not the 3 of us - ever again..
xx Kat

Note to self: Menage a trois - not such a great idea.
Kraskies + white wine  + me = Bad romance.
I'll be sticking to the beers next time. Woke up feeling a lot less than ordinary and the repetition of sausage and wine all night long really wasn't appreciated.

As for clarity regarding dishonourable mention, I've come to the conclusion a response isn't even warranted, that I'm too soft for caring and that the only reason she contacted me (like always) is because she wants something. Cheeky bitch!

Honourable mention to Miss Mitts: Thank you for the camera advice my lovely - Totally worked and I'll be sure to spend countless future hours wasting plenty of valuable time playing with the many features of iphoto to create something that resembles a picture of semi artistic merit.

Seriously jump on this girls blog - you'll see what I mean by inspirational photography: http://cosrardandpenpen.blogspot.com/
Just a touch of shameless promotion... had to do it eventually.

Well I'm off to wax some more hairy fluff, just thought I'd sneak on to catch you up on the latest briefly before the next wave rolls in.
May even get a chance to do some dodgy photo editing while I'm at it.

Chat soon xx
